Backyard Bird Party Presentation

Backyard Bird Party: Setting the Table for Summer 🐦

You’re invited to the ultimate Backyard Bird Party, hosted by Patty & Kindell!

Learn how to “set the table” for summer with the right feeders, fresh seed options, and irresistible treats that will have birds flocking to your yard. We’ll also cover how to handle those greedy party crashers, spotlight hummingbirds (your VIP guests!), and share simple ways to keep your birds safe, happy, and coming back for more.

From refreshing your setup with the right accessories to adding essentials like bird baths for drinking and splashing, you’ll see how small seasonal changes can make a big impact.

May Bird Walks

May Bird Walks

Get outside with us this May! We’re hosting three guided bird walks for different schedules, interests, and experience levels. Everyone is welcome. To help as many people as possible participate, we kindly ask that you register for only one walk.

Retirees Bird Walk: Richmond Lagoons

Thursday, May 14
9:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Richmond Sewage Lagoon

Join Al Caughey, retired teacher, avid birder, and talented photographer, for a welcoming midweek bird walk. Enjoy fresh air, meet fellow birders, and discover a surprisingly productive birding hotspot filled with ducks, shorebirds, swallows, spring songbirds, and more.

Retirees, this one’s for you - but don’t worry, we won’t be checking employment records at the trailhead. Everyone is welcome!

Morning Bird Walk: Old Quarry Trail

Wednesday, May 27
8:00 AM - 10:00 AM
Old Quarry Trail - Eagleson Rd., across from Hazeldean Mall

Start the day with WBU staff member Daniel Shaw at Old Quarry Trail, where the forest and wetland will be buzzing with spring bird activity.

Perfect for those working from home, enjoying a flexible schedule, or looking for a very legitimate excuse to “call in late” - we won’t tell.

Bird Walk: Mud Lake

Sunday, May 31
8:00 AM - 10:00 AM
Mud Lake

Join Daniel Shaw and David O’Neill for a special morning walk at one of the region’s premier birding destinations.

Mud Lake is a designated Important Bird Area and a key stop for many migrating species. At peak migration and nesting season, the sounds and activity can feel almost overwhelming in the best possible way - but we truly believe there’s no such thing as too many birds!
