Water for Birds
Water is vitally important to birds.
Whether they are feeder visitors or not, birds need water. Offering a dependable source of water is probably the simplest and most important step you can take to greatly increase the variety of birds in your yard. Even during cold weather, you can use a bird bath heater or a purpose-built heated bird bath to ensure that birds have a reliable, open source of water.
It can also significantly increase your enjoyment of your birds by allowing you to watch their often comical antics as they drink, bathe and preen.
We do not recommend putting anything in your bird bath to keep it clean. Every other day you should empty the bath, scrub it with a brush and rinse it well. Refill with fresh water. If the alga builds up quickly, you can use ten parts water to one part bleach solution to clean the bird bath. Be sure to rinse well and place fresh water in the bath.
Give your birds a place to drink and clean their feathers. Our birdbaths are available in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors and are great for attracting birds not already visiting your feeders. In warm weather, birds are attracted to the sound of moving water. Attaching a Drip-or-Mist to your bird bath provides a source of moving water which backyard birds find irresistible.
You can also add a WBU Water Wiggler® to almost any bird bath to move the water in your bird bath around. The movement of water attracts birds to your bird bath while preventing mosquitoes from laying eggs. Water Wigglers help prevent the spread of West Nile virus by eliminating stagnant water in bird baths. The WBU Water Wiggler® operates on two D-cell batteries (not included), is easy to install, silent and can be used in heated bird baths. The WBU Water Wiggler® also comes with a one year warranty.
